Choosing a paint colour is hard work...

We are in the midst of re-doing our living room. When we moved into our house 6 years ago...we only had 14 days to do all of the painting(we hired painters for the the upstairs) I convinced my husband that I could paint the basement..with the generous help of my dad...we also had to install all of the hardwood floors install the tile....yes I convinced my dear patient husband that we too could do the tile and stone work and of course all of the other end-of-build tasks that needed to be done could also fit into that schedule as well. Oh ya we also had to pack the other house, school 3 children and I was 8 weeks from my due date for our soon to be blond haired babe. So needless to say the downstairs living room only had primer put on the walls and ceiling. Fast forward six years and the basement has survived its share of child friendly wear but the walls have not fared as well. It was a time for change in fact I was quite excited to start dreaming about the colour. I did not want it to be too dark but I do have alot of lee way with cream carpeting...

(yes I know....4 children....family room...)

but I liked it and still do so I guess its okay ! In the world of decorating if you still like it after 6 years it was a great choice!

So I looked over samples and decided that a nice earth tone would be best. I checked out how each tone would bring a slightly different colour to the mix. I was careful not to pull too much grey because my upstairs rooms are on the warmer side and I wanted the transition between rooms to be smooth and comfortable. I checked how the colour would go with the art work and clocks that I will be putting on the walls. The colour had to be just perfect to go with the new leather couches and chairs and then there was the fireplace, the earth tones had to pull the same tones out of the slate mantle.....so much work...so much choice....

I finally narrowed it down, and sent dear patient hubby out to the paint store.

So today as he started to edge the paint, he was so good, he did not say a word...and maybe...only maybe there was a hint of laughter in his voice as he asked me to come down to the family room to ask me how I like the colour I had choosen.

And I had, it did look so comfortable almost like it had always been there in fact.....because it looks pretty much the same, a little warmer (i keep telling myself that anyways) but close to the same...minus the finger prints and markings of six years of life!

Here is a picture of the new colour....and the old colour...the edge closest to the slate is the "new" colour...and the wall is showing the "old" colour...with a little patch work in the upper corner area....I just love the new look!
